A week with Lynwood at Cober Hill
I am a strong proponent for witnessing. As much as
Spirit does for us, individually and collectively, if we do not take
the time to share with others what Spirit so lovingly shares with
and gives to us, then, I fear, it all goes to naught.
The recent week (July, 2007) with Lynwood Fellowship,
at Cober Hill, Scarborough, was, in my opinion, absolutely smashing.
One never knows how it’s going to go when mediums -- after all,
we are a touchy bunch -- and instructors from differing areas and
backgrounds come together for one purpose: to work as a team and give
those attending an experience that goes beyond the mind and, even,
beyond the heart; indeed, an experience which touches the soul and
Spirit.
I had already met Leah Bond two years ago, and we
hit it off well. But, when I first met Jill Harland, Ronnie Williams,
and John Conway, I immediately knew the week would go well. I tend
to be a bit of a shy man, and it often takes a tad of encouragement
from others to get me to open up and simply be myself. Well, what
can I say: a few moments with Jill, and she cut right through all
that! But, within that glorious sense of humour, I saw a woman of
Spirit who IS what she teaches.
With John, I saw a man who pulls no punches and says
it as he sees it, in a down-to-earth manner which I so appreciate.
In Ronnie, I saw a gentle soul who truly walks with the Stars and
Heavens and who has a keen connection with Mother Nature and Her many
gifts. Then, of course, there is Leah. As far as I am concerned, Leah’s
smile and sheer glow of character and enthusiasm say it all. It’s
evident in her work with Spirit.
So, there we were; five people from very different areas and different
backgrounds. Somehow, Spirit brought us all together and helped create
a tapestry of experience which I truly loved and appreciated.
This July was my fifth visit with Lynwood, and each
time I experienced this same level of intimate closeness with my fellow
workers. So, what is it about Lynwood that sets it apart, so to speak,
from the rest? Is it the tutors who are invited to share? Perhaps
so. Is it the range of subjects that Lynwood seeks to promote? That
might be it. From my perspective, Lynwood offers opportunities for
instruction that not many other organizations in the UK do. Is it
the course organizers? Maybe so; Wanda and Rod did a superb job in
organizing the week.
It could be any one or more of a hundred different
things that make weeks with Lynwood so very special. But, I think
it has to do with something more basic. I think it’s the people.
After all, people make an organization. People make a Church. People
make things happen. And people, sometimes, prevent things from happening.
July’s week at Cober Hill was extra special;
I heard this from many of you. I could come up with all sorts of spiritual
and esoteric reasons why this was so, but, I am sure it has everything
to do with the people and the Spirit which is deeply etched within
the fibers of Lynwood. I know how much Lynwood means to its founder,
Don Galloway, and I know – and very much relate to – the
problems and frustrations he has had to deal with along the way. Furthermore,
I know how much the current Chairman and other committee members want
Lynwood to be a genuine vehicle for Spirit, one that is stripped of
dogma, creed, and a close-minded Spiritualism.
I cherished every moment of my recent visit with
Lynwood. And as much as people said they learned from me, let me tell
you something: I learned and received far more than I taught and gave
out. We are all teachers and students in this grand journey of Life.
We all have something of equal value to give and to receive, one from
another.
Aha! That’s it! That’s what makes Lynwood
so very special. We all – tutors, mediums, and participants
– share and share alike; no one is elevated to a level above
any other person. Eileen J. Garrett, the great medium and psychic
researcher, once referenced mediums as the “high priests and
priestesses of the Spiritualist Movement.” In many ways, I have
to agree with that not-so-subtle assessment. But, I have to say, in
all sincerity: this is not the case with Lynwood. No medium is ever
placed above Spirit, or above Spirit’s message, regardless of
how that message may manifest. I dare say that no medium would ever
consider doing so, at the expense of getting that soul-piercing look
from our beloved Don. Putting that aside: every person who attends
Lynwood offers something of equal value to the experience, and the
whole is always so much greater than the sum of the parts.
That’s how I see it. And that is why, in my
opinion, weeks with Lynwood are so very special. As they say: Try
it; you’ll love it!
